Riccardo Ciullo cuenta con alrededor de 15 años de experiencia especializada en Propiedad Intelectual e Industrial, habiendo trabajado para dos de los bufetes de abogados de propiedad intelectual más respetados a nivel mundial.
Abogado especializado en propiedad Industrial, Intelectual y derecho de las nuevas tecnologías, ha asesorado multinacionales de reconocido prestigio internacional pertenecientes a varios sectores industriales (textil, alimentación, farmacéutico, Hi-tech, entre otros), así como a Pymes y startups, en la obtención y posterior protección judicial y extrajudicial, de sus activos inmateriales más importantes (marcas, diseños, patentes, nombres de dominios, derechos de autor, etc.), a nivel nacional e internacional; asesora sus clientes en la preparación y negociación de contratos y acuerdos de coexistencia de dichos activos y coordina estrategias de lucha contra la piratería de alcance global; en particular, cuenta con amplia experiencia en el sistema de marcas y diseños comunitarios, llevando todo tipo de procedimiento ante la Oficina de Armonización en el Mercado Interior (OAMI), así como recursos judiciales en ámbito marcario ante el Tribunal de Justicia de la Union Europea (TJUE) en Luxemburgo.
En su carrera profesional destacan colaboraciones con el Ministerio de Asuntos Exteriores de Italia, en particular como consultor de Propiedad Intelectual en Ginebra en la Misión italiana ante las Naciones Unidas y la OMC, lo que le brindó un conocimiento especializado del desarrollo del marco normativo del derecho de PI a nivel internacional, posicionándolo como un gran activo para sus clientes; colaboración con la firma internacional Hogan Lovells (Alicante) entre los años 2007 y 2008, en el departamento de Marcas y Diseños comunitarios; colaboración desde 2008 hasta 2014 con el despacho internacional Baker & McKenzie (Barcelona), realizando un papel clave en el crecimiento del departamento de PI correspondiente; asimismo, ha trabajado como abogado In-house del grupo INDITEX, uno de los mayores grupos de distribución de moda del mundo.
Licenciado en derecho español e Italiano, es miembro del Colegio de Abogados de Barcelona (ICAB), de la International Trademark Association (INTA), LES España y es presidente de la asociación de ex-alumnos españoles de la Fordham School of Law de Nueva York (Fordham Spanish Chapter)
Antes de comenzar el proyecto IP Wisely, Riccardo estableció el departamento de Propiedad Intelectual y Nuevas tecnologías de una firma de abogados internacional ubicada en Barcelona donde sigue siendo director del área IP/IT.
El liderazgo del Sr. Ciullo surge de un profundo conocimiento de las formas adecuadas para la creación y gestión de un departamento de Propiedad Industrial e Intelectual, brindando al mismo tiempo a sus clientes una alternativa personalizada y más rentable a los costes de una gran firma internacional.
In the fall of 2005, he returned to Italy to practice Italian law before being selected by the Italian Ministry of foreign affairs to work as an IP consultant in Geneva at the Italian Mission to the United Nations and WTO. During this three-month project, he attended WIPO and WTO international negotiations representing Italy while reporting to the Italian delegate for IP matters. This specialized knowledge in developing the regulatory framework for international IP law positions Mr. Ciullo as a tremendous asset to his clients.
He followed his experience in Geneva by pursuing continued education at the internationally esteemed University of Alicante, obtaining an LLM in Intellectual Property and Information Society Law. Upon completion of his LLM, Mr. Ciullo joined Hogan Lovells Alicante in 2007 as an EU Trademark practitioner. In 2008, Baker & McKenzie recruited him to join their office in Barcelona to co-chair the IP Prosecution department.
Prior to starting IP Wisely, Riccardo established the IP/IT department of a multi-disciplinary firm in Barcelona, Intlaw Asesores Legales, where currently still holds the title of IP/IT Director. The knowledge derived from years working with some of the largest intellectual property firms in the world has provided him with a solid framework from which to structure his new firm and provide efficient advice to his clients.
Mr. Ciullo is an attorney admitted to practice in Spain. He is member of the Data Protection and the Indigenous Rights Commitee of the International Trademark Association (INTA), member of the Executive Licensing Society (LES), of the Barcelona Bar Association, Professor of the Master in Executive Compliance organized by the Instituto Superior de Derecho y Economia (ISDE) and the Deputy President of the Fordham School of Law ex-alumni European Chapter. He has also been invited to give lectures on IP topics in international business and law schools such as ESADE and Fordham Law School.
In 2019, Mr. Ciullo was selected by the European Commission as one of the three expert evaluators in charge for the Mid Term review of the IP Key program for China, SEA and Latin America. Mr. Ciullo’s leadership stems from a deep understanding of the proper ways in which to run a strong Intellectual Property practice while allowing for a personalized and more cost-effective alternative to a large international firm.
